About the role

Ready for a fresh challenge? We have an exciting and rare opportunity for you to join our lively kitchen team at the world-class Âé¶¹´«Ã½. We’re looking for a talented Chef de Partie who’s passionate about food and eager to bring creativity and skill to our menus.

What you’ll do:

  • Take ownership of your section and lead by example
  • Mentor and support junior kitchen staff
  • Work alongside a team of five Commis Chefs and a Chef de Partie, with guidance from our Sous Chef and Head Chef
  • Contribute your ideas to our ever-evolving menus – we love fresh inspiration!

Our outlets offer a diverse range of dining experiences, from global street food to fine dining, so no two days are the same.

The role is part‑time at 22.5 hours per week on a 3‑over‑7 contract and includes early mornings, late evenings, and weekend shifts. You’ll be working in a vibrant, fast‑paced kitchen environment as part of our West Hospitality team.

This is a 42‑week‑per‑year contract with fixed holiday periods, with typical non‑working weeks at Christmas, Easter, and August. Hours are mainly daytime during term time, with increased evening work over the summer.

The University Hospitality Department provides catering to students, staff and external customers throughout the academic year and during the summer months. There are numerous outlets run by the Hospitality Department offering a range of food and drink options.

We have a vacancy for a General Porter. As a General Porter you will be responsible for delivering and receiving stock, setting up tables and furniture, maintaining excellent hygiene standards, operating dishwashers and carrying out daily cleaning of kitchen equipment, cutlery and crockery.

The role includes early morning, evening and weekend working on a 5 out of 7 days per week contract (36.5 hours per week). The weekly shift pattern consists of early mornings and occasional evening and weekends. This role is based on working 42 weeks per year with non-working weeks usually being based around the University students vacations at Christmas, Easter and August.

About you

You will be:

  • Reliable and flexible team player with a positive attitude.
  • Committed to keeping high standards of hygiene, safety, and food quality.
  • Works well within a team and has experience in a kitchen porter/general porter role.
  • Provides an excellent standard of customer service.
  • Previous experience of using email and finance/stock computer software is an advantage.

The University Hospitality department isn't just about student catering. We have several outlets on campus all serving high quality food and drink options. As well as catering to students, we host large conferences and banquets. Our customers are as diverse as our food. 

About you

The successful candidate will have experience of striving for excellent standards of customer service and of providing team members with operational training. You will have significant front of house hospitality management experience and demonstrate the ability to effectively lead and motivate team members. You will have knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and licencing laws and experience in financial, budgetary and variance reporting.  You should also have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.

  • Manage the front of house operations in your area of responsibility and ensure that excellent customer service is delivered at all times.
  • Ensure that procedures regarding financial control, Health and Safety, Licencing Law, HACCP and staffing are carried out within University guidelines.
  • Maintain customer care and service standards and have an awareness of product knowledge and merchandising.
  • Work with the Hospitality management team and undertake training to deliver projects that will develop food & beverage offering, management and customer service.

Flexibility is important and the role includes early morning, evening and weekend working on a 5 out of 7 days per week contract (36.5 hours per week).
