You'll be part of a small team and central to our training and events offer to doctoral students. 

About the role

You will support our doctoral training programme by making sure that sessions are scheduled and advertised to students, as well as supporting our trainers to make sure we are offering quality sessions to doctoral students. We have over 80 unique workshops so we need someone who is confident, organised and has attention to detail. You'll also be responsible for evaluating the programme, and preparing the next programme for 2026-27.

In addition to the training programme, you will take responsibility for managing our events and activities. You'll lead on some of our larger events such as our Doctoral Festival of Ideas and our Doctoral Research Celebration Evening. In addition, you'll also support our Three Minute Thesis competition, our writing retreats and other student development activities. No two days are the same. 

About you

To be successful in the role you will need to:

  • enjoy working in a fast-paced and evolving and changing environment
  • be open-minded and willing to try new things and new ways of working
  • you will enjoy working with students and will be interested in their development and improving the student experience
  • you will be an excellent planner, have strong communication skills and will be able to connect with people
  • have excellent organisational skills as you will need to manage various projects and work to deadlines
  • have previous experience either managing or supporting others

Further information

The role is full-time for a fixed-term period from January 2026 until August 2026 to cover for secondment.

You will be located in the Doctoral College where hybrid working is in operation. You will be expected to work in the office 2-3 days per week depending on work activities and on some occasions you may be required to work on campus more.

As our Administrator for Doctoral Development and Research Culture, you'll be right at the heart of supporting change – supporting a suite of development events and resources for the Doctoral College, supporting project plans, and finances that enable doctoral college research culture projects to realise their planned benefits. 

About the role

You'll have the chance to work with diverse groups of experts and stakeholders across the university and use your organisational skills to support initiatives that move the dial on the cultural changes that matter most to our community.

You'll largely be supporting our events and activities programme, as well as core research culture initiatives. To give you a flavour this includes but is not limited to:

  • Doctoral Research Celebration Evening
  • Doctoral Festival of Ideas
  • Doctoral Discoveries: showcasing research impact through digital media
  • Lighter Side of Research: comedy development programme
  • Doctoral Recognition Awards

About you

You will: 

  • have excellent organisational skills and are great at keeping projects on track 
  • be a great team-worker with an eye for detail 
  • have experience of an administrative/coordination support role,
  • feel motivated by the idea of making a positive difference to the development of researchers, and to the culture that our research-related staff and students experience

Further information

The role is part-time working 21.9 hours per week (0.6FTE) for a fixed-term period until 31 July 2026.

Ideally we're looking for someone to do this across 3 days, or you may wish to spread this out over 4 or 5 days
