About the role 

This role will focus on carrying out high quality investigations into a wide range of issues including under the University’s Dignity & Respect Policy, Staff Disciplinary Policy, the Grievance Policy and where applicable the Research Misconduct Policy. In doing so you will ensure that they are carried out in a transparent, rigorous, professional and timely manner, taking into account the wellbeing and safeguarding of all of the parties involved. 

You will take the lead responsibility as the investigator in assigned investigations into reports of varying complexity, which will primarily focus on staff respondents, but may on occasions include student reporting parties. In this role you may investigate alone or, on occasions, with support from an HR Advisor or Business Partner. 

You will determine if there is a case to answer and if found, will attend formal hearings and present the disciplinary case and cross examine the respondent staff member. 

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to policy development, developing, reviewing and revising identified HR policies, ensuring that they are clear, concise and straight-forward to follow, and that meet all UK legislative requirements and are supportive of the culture that the University is seeking to create. 

About you 

You will have excellent organisational, inter-personal and analytical skills, an ability to use your initiative and be able to interpret and apply complex information. You will be able to work on your own initiative and deliver reliably on expected timescales. We are constantly improving our practice and you will also be able to quickly learn new systems, technology and procedures and identify and implement improvements to these on an ongoing basis.

About the role

This is a varied, fast-paced position, ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving and working with a wide range of people. 

You’ll support a portfolio of managers recruiting for roles across different departments, from Technicians to Lecturers to professional services. You’ll manage end-to-end recruitment activity, from initial vacancy set-up and advert preparation, to issuing contracts and coordinating onboarding communications.

The role involves providing first-line advice and support via email, phone, and MS Teams, including checking visa requirements, advertising options, interview logistics, contracts, and right-to-work checks. You’ll work with our Applicant Tracking System, Payroll system, and MS365 to ensure a smooth and efficient recruitment process.

What we're looking for

To be successful in this role, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication skills and a professional, approachable manner
  • The ability to work at pace with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Confidence in supporting stakeholders at all levels
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

Experience working in a busy HR or recruitment team (in-house or agency) is desirable, as is experience writing content such as job adverts. However, we’re primarily looking for someone with strong administration skills, the right attitude, and willingness to learn.
