Description: Aims:
To introduce students to the legal system in the Federal Republic of Germany which governs the relationship between the state and its citizens with particular emphasis on the implications of the constitutional framework on the organisation of business. To familiarise students with relevant language and concepts, to assist students in writing in German about the relevant areas.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
* demonstrate understanding of key developments in the German legal environment pertaining to business;
* show an understanding of the role of the state in the German economy and explain the relationship between the state and its citizens and between the state and industry;
* explain and discuss specific aspects of the German legal environment in the business context in both written and spoken German.

Skills:
Skills in critical analysis, conceptual thinking, precision in the use of written and spoken language, exercise of independent judgement, reasoned argument, teamwork, and the planning/conduct/reporting of non-quantitative research are taught and assessed in this unit.

a) The constitutional framework of business.
b) The German business environment in the context of federalism.
c) Key areas and aspects of change in the legal environment of German business.
