Description: Aims:
This unit is a vehicle to introduce programme level (formative) assessment to the Engineering Management MSc programmes. It creates an opportunity for students to integrate the concepts, techniques and skills acquired on the various taught units in solving a practical business problem.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
* apply self-direction and originality in identifying a suitable engineering management problems of interest
* Select appropriate models, tools and techniques to apply to a given problem, linking theory and practice meaningfully and identifying the most relevant data to inform decision making
* Apply the scientific principles of engineering management in appropriate and possibly innovative ways
* Present and communicate in a professional manner to a potential business client.
* Reflect on individual performance, set appropriate objectives and evaluate progress against these objectives.

* Ability to conceptualise frameworks and methodologies that enable the student to link theory and practice (F)

Content:
This unit consists of three main themes
1. A case study of engineering management which should be self selected by the student and be of particular personal interest. The student will apply techniques learnt in the programme to this case study.
2. The student will present the findings at the start of semester 2 for which formative feedback will be given. This case study could form the basis of a dissertation.
The student will also set appropriate personal objectives at the start of semester 1, and will review progress against these objectives at the end of the unit. The student will also be encouraged to self reflect, for which training will be given.
