Description: Aims:
The aim of this unit is to provide a solid grounding in product and service development, including emerging manufacturing technologies and best practice management techniques. The aim is to equip students with some key skills they need to make a success of any career which involves product and service development.

Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this unit, students will be able to:
* Outline contemporary political, economic and social drivers and trends that affect manufacturing, product and service development.
* Describe the process of manufacturing and how it varies according to product type, market size, organisational complexity and other relevant contextual dimensions.
* Apply a suitable theoretical model of product and service development to a contemporary example, providing appropriate critique.
* Give an overview of current and emerging technologies and how they affect manufacturing, product and service development.
* Provide in depth critique and research of a selected area of technology and/or management relevant to the unit.
