Description: Aims:
To introduce to students the study skills and methods of analysis for the study of Sport and Exercise using the scientific method.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit students should be able to:
* Utilise a computer and appropriate programmes for word-processing, basic statistical analysis and the retrieval of information through the World Wide Web.
* Describe the various research approaches and designs, and the statistical (if appropriate) treatments accompanying them.
* Demonstrate an understanding of how various research designs control for threats to validity and reliability.
* Demonstrate a basic understanding of probability, null hypotheses, hypothesis testing, measures of central tendency and variability, and the Normal Distribution / sampling error.

Content:
Word processing; preparation of spreadsheets; use of statistical software packages; retrieval of sources of information (library and www); research design and experimental control; basic statistical techniques; literature reviewing; referencing.
